How to Tell If a Local Guide Platform Is Trustworthy: A Checklist
Practical criteria for identifying a legitimate local guide or city experience platform — escrow by a licensed payment institution, legal agreements, refund and dispute mechanisms, expert screening and service records — and how CityMuze meets each one.

Why Check the Platform First, Not Just the Person
Once a city tour or business reception request turns into a private meeting with payment to a personal account, there is usually no traceable payment trail and no way to resolve disputes. A legitimate matching platform should turn admission, escrow, service delivery and after-sales support into rules it can explain publicly, instead of relying on private chats in social apps.
CityMuze treats in-person screening, escrow by a licensed payment institution, published agreements and full service records as basic infrastructure, and every city hub shares the same compliance and risk-control standards set by headquarters.
02SECTION
Three Hard Criteria
First, are payments held in escrow by a licensed payment institution? Client payments should not go directly into a personal account and should be settled only after the service is completed. Second, is there a verifiable legal agreement or a framework developed with a law firm’s assistance, clearly worded and not replacing defined responsibilities with “we guarantee everything” marketing? Third, are there clear refund and complaint channels, with rules published in the app or on the website?
You should also check whether the company behind the platform can be verified, whether service providers are reviewed or screened in person by the platform, and whether services require meeting in public places, location check-in and communication on the platform with records kept.

High-Risk Signals
Be on alert if you see any of the following: pressure to transfer money privately or pay a personal account; no contract or vague service boundaries; payment before service with no way to appeal; service providers who have not been vetted at all; or services that hint at suggestive content or private, non-public venues. A legitimate platform should clearly reject flirtation, suggestive behavior and private transactions.
CityMuze publicly commits to no flirting, no suggestive behavior and no entering private residences; communication through in-app messaging; and review of all displayed content before publication, with serious violations taken down or banned.

How CityMuze Meets These Criteria
Our agreements and compliance framework were developed with the assistance of Dacheng Law Offices; Dacheng is not a guarantor, nor an “exclusive authorization” endorsement. Transactions use a deposit and a balance payment, with funds held in escrow by a licensed payment institution; if an order is not accepted in time, the deposit can be refunded to the original payment method. Services involve location check-in and mutual reviews, and clients can file complaints and request refunds.
To check specific items, read the basic safeguards on our Safety page, or see the FAQ entries on payment safety, the service process and the trust checklist. Enterprise clients can also use our invitation-only business channel, whose service information is never made public.
